What is the CONPIAC?

The National Board for Industrial Property and Anti-Counterfeiting (CONPIAC) created in April 2008, confirms the commitment of the government and the private sector to jointly fight against counterfeit. Its goal is to reinforce the cooperation and coordination between different stakeholders to address more effectively and on the long-term the problem of counterfeit in Morocco.

MISSIONS OF THE CONPIAC

The missions of CONPIAC are focused on the following main areas:

  • Consumers awareness;
  • Industrials and enterprises awareness about existing laws and regulations;
  • Staff training of authorities concerned;
  • Reinforcing the legislative and regulatory framework;
  • Evaluation of economic impact of counterfeiting;
  • Exchange of information concerning the fight against counterfeiting;
  • International cooperation.

Examples of realised activities

Actions of awareness
  • The Caravan organization of intellectual property by the OMPIC, the CGEM and the BMDA, aiming the information and awareness on the importance of  industrial property as well as the fight against counterfeiting in several cities of the kingdom and launch of the CONPIAC in April 2008; 
Training actions
  • Organization of the seminary " Promotion of industrial property and anti-counterfeiting " with the presence of Moroccan and French ministers of Foreign Trade in the CGEM in November 2008 ;
  • Training sessions on the issues of fight against counterfeiting organized for authorities charged with enforcement of IPRs (OMPIC, Custom, Justice, Police, RCMP …)
  • Training sessions on the issues of fight against counterfeit organized for enterprises members of the Working Group Private Sector of the CONPIAC
Legislative and regulatory framework
  • Organizing a Round Table of members of the CONPIAC (public and private sector) with representatives of the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the Moroccan Customs (ADII) on the issues of borders measures for counterfeit products, organized in the OMPIC in February 2010;
  • Holding, in Morocco, of the 2nd Meeting of National Committees of fighting against counterfeit of the Euro-Mediterranean Basin in December 2009 in Tangiers. This meeting was organized by the OMPIC and the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI France) in collaboration with the CONPIAC and the National Committee Anti-Counterfeiting (CNAC France);
  • Publishing articles on the fight against counterfeiting in the journal of the OMPIC, newspapers... for the general public.
