How to register a trademark in the international scene?

Choose the countries in which you want to protect your trademark

The trademark is a territorial right, i.e. it is exercised in the country or countries where you have filed it. If you plan to have export activities, the registration in the international scene will bestow on your products the same rights and benefits in foreign markets.

ways to register your trademark on the international scene:

  • With the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to benefit from the registration in the countries which you designate among the countries which are signatories of the Madrid System (more than 80 countries, including Morocco). www.wipo.int/madrid/
  • With each national office of the countries which you target. You will have to use the services of a local agent.
  • With the regional office for countries which are members of regional systems (the Benelux countries, European Union, Anglophone African countries, French-speaking African countries)
The Madrid System allows for a single procedure for registration, payment of fees and dues, and renewal of the trademark in the countries of the Madrid Union.
