How to register a design or model internationally

Protect your designs and industrial models in the countries to which you will export your products

The right over designs or industrial models is a territorial right: it gives you rights only in the countries where you have filed such design or industrial model. You must thus register it in the countries where you wish to market it, so as to benefit from the same rights as in Morocco.
Attention! It is necessary to act quickly! You have a 6-month priority period after the date of the first filing to make requests abroad. After that, your design or model loses its character of innovation and may not be registered any more.

3 ways to register your designs and models internationally

  • With each national office of the countries which you target
  • With the regional office for countries which are members of regional systems. Example:
  • The Benelux countries, the European Union, the French-speaking African countries, and the Anglophone African countries.
  • With the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to benefit from the registration in all member countries which are signatories of The Hague Arrangement (forty countries, including Morocco). Link to list of countries which are signatories of The Hague Arrangement (pdf)
It should be noted that an international request based on the Hague Arrangement may be filed with OMPIC which acts as an interface with OMPI (Link to list of countries of the Hague Arrangement(pdf)

The Hague Arrangement represents a one-stop shop for international registration and the payment of fees for designs and industrial models.
